Leadership & Activism Symposium Planning Volunteer

Do you love strategy, organization, and creating meaningful experiences? As a Planning Volunteer for the Leadership & Activism Symposium, you’ll help shape the program from the ground up. This behind-the-scenes role is perfect for volunteers who enjoy planning events, coordinating with facilitators, and ensuring that every workshop, panel, and interactive session runs smoothly.
Your work will help create an empowering space where participants learn, connect, and lead with purpose.

TIME COMMITMENT
3–6 hours per month leading up to the symposium (more during peak prep)
LOCATION
Virtual or in-person planning sessions
PREREQUISITES
Must complete our volunteer training module prior to running their first session with nerdy people or organizations.
Interest in event planning, program design, or community engagement
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to collaborate with staff, facilitators, and other volunteers
Commitment to inclusivity and creating welcoming, professional spaces
Experience with events, scheduling, or coordination helpful but not required

Assist staff in planning the symposium schedule, workshops, and panels
Coordinate with facilitators, speakers, and presenters
Help design session content, interactive exercises, or materials
Support logistics planning (registration, tech setup, space needs)
Track tasks, deadlines, and volunteer assignments
Participate in pre-event planning meetings and check-ins

Gain hands-on experience in event planning and program management
Collaborate with leaders in education, nonprofit, and advocacy spaces
Build skills in coordination, facilitation support, and team communication
Receive recognition as a Super Heroines, Etc. volunteer
